We collect only what is necessary to operate the site and deliver the newsletter:

• Email address — provided voluntarily when you subscribe to our newsletter
• Subscription date — when you signed up
• Basic analytics — standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited), which are handled by our hosting provider Netlify under their own privacy policy

We do not collect names, payment information, location data, or any other personal information. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics scripts.

How we use your data

• Newsletter delivery — your email address is used solely to send you the daily One Big Story newsletter
• We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose your email address to any third party
• We do not use your data for advertising or profiling

Double opt-in

When you sign up, we send a confirmation email. You must click the confirmation link before you are added to the active mailing list. This ensures you genuinely want to receive our emails and that the email address is yours.

Where your data is stored

Subscriber data is stored securely on Netlify's infrastructure (Netlify Blobs). Emails are sent via Gmail's SMTP service. Both services maintain their own security and privacy standards.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter email
• Request deletion of all your data by contacting us (see below)
• Access your data — contact us to receive a copy of the data we hold about you

When you unsubscribe, your email address is immediately and permanently deleted from our subscriber list.

Data retention

We retain your email address only for as long as you remain subscribed. Upon unsubscribing, your data is deleted immediately. We do not keep backups of unsubscribed email addresses.

AI-generated content

One Big Story uses artificial intelligence to generate articles, podcasts, videos, and chatbot responses. These are created from publicly available news sources and do not involve any subscriber personal data.

Children's privacy

One Big Story is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted with an updated date at the top of this page.
